As Darkness Gathers is Emma Elliot’s second novel, and she has once again proved that she is an author to be watched. This is the second in the Dark Betrayals series, but it can be read as a standalone.
The story presents a cast of layered, authentic characters and a gripping, fast-paced plot. Elliot’s writing style is so vivid that the reader is riveted and feels as if they’re drawn into the story right along with the characters. First-person narrative can be jarring, but in this story it flows seamlessly and has the reader glancing over his or her shoulder right along with the heroine.
As Darkness Gathers is a story of survival, and the juxtaposition of enduring nature’s elements only to have the greatest danger waiting at home is powerful and poignant. Romance and suspense are expertly interwoven, and in As Darkness Gathers Emma Elliot has given the reader another unforgettable read.
